Cannabinoid
Cannabinoid is the breakbeat recording project of Vancouver dj Laurent Boucher (aka Spaceman Spliff). Cannabinoid pushes boundaries with regards to genre and style, while retaining a characteristic sound which can be heard in all Cannabinoid tracks. Fusing elements of progressive, tribal, psy, electro, breakbeats and techno, on top of driving, funky drums, Cannabinoid is an all-robot funk band, fronted by a circuit-bent NES console.
Following a solid local dj career, Cannabinoid has been writing electronic music since 2008, started doing live sets in the summer of 2009, and has been elevating dance floors ever since with a fresh and unique sound. The most prestigious local festivals where Cannabinoid has performed include Earthdance 2009, Entheos Gathering (2010 & 2011), Intention 11 (2010) and Diversity Festival (2011).
2010 saw two releases come to fruition: the 5 song “My Red Eyes” EP released by Red Robot Records (UK), and the single “Monthly Payments to the Aliens / Put in the Crystals” released by Held II Ransom (UK). Tech-funk industry leaders VIM Records (Greece) recently agreed to release a single, “No Words, No Music / Came Here to Dance” with 2 remixes, as well as contracting Cannabinoid to do remixes of other artists' work. VIM is a perfect fit for the Cannabinoid sound, and the future looks exciting and fruitful.
